After an amazing trip to South Africa that led straight to Exxxotica NJ, I was exhausted. I decided to change my flight and leave directly after my shift today, just to have a little breathing room before Tuesday. Although I do believe that everything happens for a reason, little did I know what United 1224 flight had in store for me.

I always book window seats, because I love to curl up and read, and as I settled in, a girl in her twenties sat down next to me. Soon after, a guy sat down in the aisle seat. They began a bit of that polite airplane banter that only existed to me as background noise, until he asked what she did for a living. 

"I do ministry work."

My ears perked up, because sometimes I encounter ministry volunteers when I travel and we often trade stories about non-profits & NGOs in other countries that need help. But THEN, I couldn't believe what came next.

"I minister to people in, uh... porn, so I've been dealing with SKETCHY PORN STARS at some convention for the last few days, so..." *she shudders, disgusted* (The guy, who may have even been an attendee of Exxxotica, looks intrigued.)

I felt a fiery hot sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. This was supposed to be 5 1/2 hours of peaceful reading in the sky, relaxing on my way home to sleep in my own bed after a busy (but awesome) 2+ weeks. She is seated SIX INCHES away from me. I am FURIOUS, and I know I am about to explode if I stay quiet.

"I AM one of those sketchy porn stars", I exclaim rather loudly. She turns, surprised. Many other people in surrounding rows turn around too, curious to know what a 'sketchy porn star' looks like. "and that's not very Christian of you."

She turns and looks me in the face, wide eyed. "What's your name?" (as if my name mattered to her then. It may matter NOW, as I tweet about our exchange to almost a quarter of a million people, blog about it, and discuss it on my RADIO SHOW next week.)

I did tell her and she responded with something like I wasn't wearing makeup so she didn't know it was me or some nonsense. I just stared at her as she tried in vain to dig herself out of her hole. I turned away and stared out the window as we taxied down the runway, considering my options. In the meantime, she began nervously chatting to the guy about how she's been working so hard at the show and seeing all the women being so mistreated by all the men and it upsets her sooooo much. Poor souls. 

Minutes later, to me: "I'm sorry. I don't know why I said that. I guess I was trying to be cool." 

I look at her again. "XXX Church, right?" She nods. "I recognize you. You came by our booth." Now she knows I know the group she works with. I began to loudly explain how she was passing judgement and had no business doing so. As I do this, I understand that my spoken words will never be enough to express to her how upset I am. So I decided to write her a letter instead. 


Dear 28E,

Since we're about to spend some time together, allow me to introduce myself. I'm jessica drake. I've been in the adult business now for over 10 years as a performer, writer, director, and Sex Educator. I am not a victim. I am not mistreated. I am not an addict. I was not sexually abused. Men do not mistreat me. I am not exploited. 

You told me you don't know why you said what you said...but I do. 

You said it because you're a hypocrite. You may have said it because you're brainwashed. I'm sure it wasn't the first time you've spoken that way about us. You said it to a perfect stranger on an airplane within 3 minutes of meeting him, and I can only imagine the things that you say to others within your organization. Your hypocrisy is, in part, my issue with organized religion. I have more spirituality and compassion in the fingers that I'm using to type this out on my iPad than you have in your whole body. I hope this lesson might be the catalyst that helps you change that.

In just a few sentences, you have shamed us, judged us, and attempted to influence a stranger with your skewed reality. In the name of JESUS.

You are representing XXXChurch. There are only 2 viable explanations:

A. You are parroting their beliefs and feelings about porn stars, in which case your promotional stickers you pass out at our sex conventions should read "Jesus loves porn stars...but WE think they're icky"

B. You are sharing your own very personal feelings about porn performers, and should NOT be publicly representing XXX Church.

Throughout Exxxotica, I was not mistreated once, but sitting next to you, I feel utterly violated. I am more offended sitting next to a hypocrite than you ever would have been seated next to a PORN STAR, and believe me, right about now I'd rather be out on the wing than in this seat beside you. At the very least, I am hopeful this will be a learning experience for you...and if not you, then perhaps for the public, the people at XXX Church and the shows that allow you access to us, like Exxxotica.

where to begin...

yes. that's the only bag i take.

It's been so long. I've been back a little over two weeks now, but between jet lag and everything I have to catch up with, procrastinating this blog has been easy. In fact, the only reason I'm finally writing it is because I'm on jury duty, and right now I'm sitting on a hard, cold bench outside the courtroom.

I decided to blog about my trip as I have some of my other adventures...in parts. So much happened during the 3+ weeks I was gone, it's tough for ME to keep the details sorted out. Sometimes I have to check the camera roll on my iPhone to figure out when I left one place for the next. 

I seldom discuss my primary purpose for these trips- I think it goes without saying now that I have the worst case of wanderlust you will ever see, but I also have another passion- helping people. Many of the trips I take are solely for charity work. Work that I can't really go into detail about because of my occupation...sad but true. I knew the stigma and how it would affect me when I decided to pursue my career in adult. We can debate all day long about why it's unfair, and why the money I donate is just as green, or the fact that I work as hard as the next volunteer (if not harder) but those arguments have long since been made...and the bottom line is, at the end of the day, I AM a porn star. A catch 22 in this situation because there are few jobs that would make the money to enable me to travel the world and donate to charities. But I accept the double edge sword, and from time to time I lean against it's sharp edge to remind me I'm alive. i know...how melodramatic of me. ; )

Back to Sri Lanka.

WHERE am I?!?

We were part of a really big build- our team was responsible for doing things like digging and backfilling foundations, doing brickwork, shoveling, hauling bricks, lots of really intense physical work. (Did i mention BRICKS?) With NO wheelbarrows & no power tools. It was hot. Like over 100 degrees, and the "monsoon season" we had been warned about was actually a drought. It was fantastic, though. We had one of the best teams ever. It's just so amazing that a group of strangers from all over the world of all ages and walks of life can come together and end up having so much in common. We all bonded over rice and curry, coconut milk straight from the source, and from sharing bug spray and hand sanitizer. AND ibuprofen.

there is no "I" in team...but there is a lot of sweat, dirt, bug spray, and occasionally blood.

We worked in a community that will have 25 completed homes with latrines and a community center. The families work along side us. We eat their food. Try to speak their languages. And we fall in love with them, with their children, as they shovel and haul bricks along with us. In bare feet.

You guys know me.
you know me so well in fact, that sometimes when i say "good mornin y'all" on my twitter, you say "hi bacon chick" and send me pics of bacon for breakfast...even JD foods, the guys that make bacon salt, bacon croutons, and yes, even bacon LUBE follow me on twitter. not only do i love bacon, but i will also eat damn near anything. street food in cambodia. room service after it's been sitting in my room all day (or night). anything that comes out of a drive-thru window, lots of things out of vending machines. leftovers off the floorboard of my car or from the bottom of my purse. things dipped in chocolate. things that are deep fried. things that are deep fried then dipped in chocolate. you get the picture.

amazingly enough, my cholesterol isn't as high as our national debt. being thin is in my genes, and even though it sure got me picked on and even bullied as i fumbled my way through school, it sure does come in handy now. so why would i do a three day JUICE FAST? glad you asked.

when i shot "jessica drake's Guide to Wicked Sex- Threesomes" i was fortunate to have some mainstream press on my set. one of them was Emily, a writer for xoJane who did an amazing piece about the time she spent on my set. as i was reading it, i roamed around the rest of the site (you should too, it's pretty awesome) when i noticed that one of their other writers had done the Ritual Cleanse. i had been really curious about juice fasts/diets- i mean come on, i live in LA where it seems that EVERYONE does stuff like that. So i read a little more. then i ordered some for myself. before i launch into the rest of my story, let me first tell you that i am NOT getting paid to write this. and i'm also not getting free product. though i wouldn't mind if i did. hint, hint, Ritual Cleanse.

i used their site and i chose to try the three day reset cleanse with the seasonal juice option. it's the shortest cleanse they have, and i figured if i can climb Mt Kilimanjaro, then i can surely drink juice for three days.











sometime before 8 am monday morning, it arrived at my door, in an insulated cooler bag with ice packs inside.




There are six juices a day, and you drink one every two hours. in between you can have as much water as you want, and if you CAN'T give up caffeine (i draw the line there) then you can have green tea. inside the cooler was also a short list of cheat foods- lettuce, avocado, celery, cucumber. i started off promising myself that i would eat a little lettuce every day in the evening, so it would be like having dinner. almost.

i loaded them into my fridge amongst the butter, baconnaise, hot fudge, biscuits in a can, red velvet cake, 4 kinds of gourmet coffee creamer (you get the idea, right?) and cracked open the first one.

the mix of spinach, romaine, kale, celery, cucumber, green apple and lemon was surprisingly good. i drank it in about 20 minutes. not really the kind of thing you chug. i had a cup of hot green tea, lots of water, and two hours later i had another one. this time, it was a seasonal fruit juice. orange, blackberry, and apple- and WOW, it was good. the rest of the day went pretty much the same. green juice, then a fruity one. i especially liked the spicy lemonade, it kind of reminded me of my second favorite adult beverage called a "burning mandarin", minus the vodka. at the end of the day, the last drink is almost a smoothie, with cashew pieces and vanilla. it's tasty and filling.




i made it through the first day! and with almost no trouble... i only had an issue around 4pm and then again around 9:30pm, and coincidentally, those are my regular lunch and dinner times, respectively. yes, i know that alone says something about my eating habits. don't judge me.

the second day went almost as well. i say almost because around 5pm as i was walking Big (my dog) i noticed just how tasty he was looking. i made it back home without taking of bite of him to discover i was about 2 hours overdue for a juice. whew. sorry Big.

also during the second day, i noticed i felt really good. i had a really different energy that coffee doesn't give me. my mood was better. not that i'm a bitch, but i get pretty stressed out sometimes, juggling everything i do. i'm sure drinking mass amounts of water was helping me too.

by the third day, i felt AMAZING. i started to tell people about it because by then i knew i'd be able to finish it, but i swear when i tell people they look at me like i'm nuts. i am internationally known to be a ravenous carnivore. i get it. but still...

on the fourth day, thursday, i woke up knowing i could eat food. i went downstairs and looked in the fridge. what would be my first meal? sadly, nothing looked good...except for the 3 1/2 juices i had left. so i did it again. i did have sushi last night...but i wanted a salad with it, not my usual cream cheese roll and dumplings and mochi for dessert. who am i??

this morning i started off with my last juice. i was sad to see it go, but thrilled i had one to drink.
for lunch i just had a veggie patty (never tried THOSE before) and a salad.
then i ordered more juice. this time, i did it on their site, but i ordered ala carte. just for the mornings. ; )

i think i lost one full size in my jeans, probably 3-5 lbs, but that wasn't my intent. the biggest reward for me here was 1. all this energy, and B. i just feel so f'n HAPPY.

after the smoke clears...

holy shit.
i'm still in vegas!

AEE was great. although the set up wasn't quite right (i don't think the Hard Rock was quite prepared to handle the madness) i think overall,all the fans were very happy. i know that every time i got out of an elevator or walked down my hall, i was chased with pictures and/or DVDs to sign. it was cool though, just tough to juggle everything at once.

i met lots of people, took a million pics and signed a million posters, hosted my radio show, did dinners, parties, and also "hosted" the AEE Virtual Cast. i'll address that a bit more thoroughly on the next podcast i record, but i'd kind of like to apologize if that part let you down. i wasn't really the host, more like a satellite correspondant. that's not how it was pitched to me...i was under the impression i was, at the least, one of the main co-hosts, so that's how i promoted it to you guys. i'm sorry to those of you who have emailed/tweeted me about it. believe me, had i been a bit more aware, i would have shared that info with you. no ego, either, i just wish they would have told me upfront. at any rate, i hope you enjoyed what you DID see of me. ; )

since i was working my ass off and had every day scheduled down to the very last minute with super early wakeup calls every day, i was a good girl (YAWN) every night, ending up in bed by midnight with hot tea...except for the night of the AVN Awards. that night was awesome, though it did take nearly a full day to recover, lol.

i won't lie...there were LOTS of problems with the award show. problems that i had NEVER seen, in 10 years of going. the telepromters quit working, the huge screens everywhere were either static-y or blank, cues were missed, awards were skipped, skits didn't play. i'm sure AVN was devastated, they always take such pride in the show...i'm not sure what happened...but barring the technical issues, the awards were really good to us. Rocki Whore Hardcore Parody won a LOT, including Best Parody Comedy. in addition to that, Horizon won Best Special Effects, and i won my SECOND AWARD for my series! jessica drake's Guide to Wicked Sex- Fellatio won Best Instructional Release. that's such a huge deal for me, to be honored at both award shows in January. i am sincerely grateful to AVN and everyone on the commitee who voted.

AFTER the awards, we hosted an afterparty at Vanity in the Hard Rock, and it was amazing. we had great tables, lots of booze, awesome DJ, and so many people. it was just what i needed to blow off some steam after so much hard work...i may not drink often, but when i do, i drink like i still live in my parents' basement. shots & shots of jager! it was so much fun. i'll put up some pictures in a few days, they're scandalous.

i stay in vegas an extra day or so to relax after the show so i'm just packing up now, i'll leave sometime late tomorrow afternoon and drive at a leisurely pace (yeah, right) back to LA where i already have a ton of work waiting for me. in a few days i'll be in indiana, and then shortly after, i'll be shooting. i always leave vegas so inspired, it's kind of like New Year's all over again. : )

it's that time again!

i love this time of year...vegas, AEE, and the AVN Awards.
it's always crazy, but it's SO much fun. right now i'm actually more prepared than most years, so instead of having that last minute stress, i'm just excited. i have a lot of stuff going on this year (well...some things never change) not only can you find me signing in the WICKED booth, i'm also broadcasting IN BED with jessica drake LIVE from the show floor Thursday and Friday, from 2-3pm PST. join me and lots of guests talking about what's going on this year at the show, and listen in as we try to predict the winners of the 2012 AVN Awards. i will also be doing an STFU SHOW PODCAST while i'm there in the midst of all the madness. we're hosting both the kick off party for the AEE Expo, as well as the official afterparty for the AVN Awards, so if you're going to be in Vegas, come and party your shants off with the hottest girls in the biz.

THE 2012 AEE EXPO

LOS ANGELES, CA / LAS VEGAS, NV  - (JANUARY 16, 2012) -  Armed with exciting new products, prestigious award nominations and an attention-grabbing new promotional campaign, the Wicked Girls™ will be blazing brighter than the Las Vegas skyline this week at the 2012AVN Adult Entertainment Expo.

The excitement will begin promptly at 11:30 am Wednesday as 2012 AVN award nominee Stormy Daniels joins Wicked consultant Joy King for the topical panel presentation It’s (Not) a Man’s World. These insightful professionals will discuss their experiences working in adult entertainment, highlighting the challenges, advantages and quirks of pursuing careers in an industry commonly construed as being run by men.

As Wednesday draws to a close, the  Wicked Girls™ will host the expo's official kick-off celebration at Planet Hollywood's posh new nightclub Gallery, where adventurous party goers can sample a full-service lipstick bar while losing themselves in the beautiful facility's pulsating rhythms and stylish European ambiance. 

Thursday January 19th will see the ladies going into promotional overdrive as they take over the Hard Rock’s lush Platinum Penthouse (room 31832) for an exclusive press junket of pre-booked interviews from 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Acclaimed directors Brad Armstrong (The Rocki Whore Picture Show: A Hardcore Parody) and Sam Hain (Horizon) will also be giving interviews during this time.

Several key members of Wicked's corporate team will be taking meetings from January 18th - 21st, including President and Owner Steve Orenstein, Consultant Joy King, VP of International Sales and Licensing Steven Vlottes, National Sales Manager Bonnie Kail, Chief Technology Officer Avi Bitton and Carrie Smith of Product Development. Among the new products company executives will be introducing are advance samples of the exciting Wicked Sensual Care line of intimate products, currently slated for a Spring 2012 Launch.

Once the weekend arrives, the Hard Rock’s famed music venue The Joint will be the place to experience some inimitable Wickedexcitement, as Stormy, jessica, Kaylani and Alektra literally "take over the joint" for the weekend as the Fan Fest Stage's official hosts! They will be autographing new signing pieces for their fans Friday from 11:00 am until 7:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. As the main stage's hosts, the ladies will be introducing special musical guests, judge exciting contests and participating in exclusive events throughout the weekend. Brad Armstrong will take part in the informative seminar The Perils and Potentials of Parody Porn Saturday at 1:00 pm to discuss current hits like The Rocki Whore Picture Show: A Hardcore Parody and such upcoming projects as Men In Black: A Hardcore Parody.

For those unable to visit Sin City, the Adult Entertainment Expo has launched the AVN-AEE Virtual Ticket, giving Internet users across the globe interactive, real-time access to the convention and associated live events. The hosts for this exciting VirtualCast will be jessica drake, Mr. Skin founder Jim McBride and popular Midwest radio personality Rover. jessica will also be broadcasting her Playboy Radio series IN BED with jessica drake  LIVE from the expo on Thursday and Friday 2-3pm PST.

The 29th Annual AVN Awards Show promises to be an exceedingly Wicked affair as well, with acclaimed films and lines like Horizon, The Rocki Whore Picture Show: A Hardcore Parody, Anarchy, jessica drake’s Guide to Wicked Sex, Heart Strings and Sexy competing for major accolades. In addition to providing comprehensive coverage for her VirtualCast audience, jessica and her Wicked sister Kaylani Leiwill also be taking the stage as official presenters.

Once the last award has been handed out, the ladies will finish the show – and their week in Vegas – by hosting Wicked's official AVNAwards afterparty at Vanity nightclub. With a sprawling dance floor surrounded by cyclone chandeliers, onyx catwalks and world-class entertainment, Vanity will be the place to experience the glamor and passion of AEE 2012 in person.
